App Store screenshot sizes for iPhone, iPad, and Google Play

Last verified October 22, 2026 against Apple’s screenshot specifications and Google Play’s preview asset requirements.

The short answer

For iPhone, Apple requires at least one screenshot in the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) class: 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 pixels in portrait (or 2556 × 1179 or 2622 × 1206 landscape). If your app runs on iPad, you also need a 13-inch iPad screenshot at 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 (or 2752 × 2064 or 2732 × 2048 landscape). Other sizes are optional or required only in specific cases (see the tables below), and App Store Connect can scale the highest required resolution down for smaller devices.

To submit your app, you must provide screenshots for the following required display sizes:

  • iPhone: At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display).
  • iPad (if your app supports iPadOS): At least one screenshot for iPad 13-inch display.

Google Play screenshot and feature graphic sizes

Google Play doesn’t publish a list of fixed screenshot sizes. Phone and tablet screenshots are accepted if they meet the rules below; only the feature graphic has one exact size.

Recommended for Google’s larger formats: to be eligible for sections of Google Play that show apps in a large format using screenshots, Google says apps need at least four screenshots at a minimum of 1080px: 9:16 portrait (at least 1080 × 1920) or 16:9 landscape (at least 1920 × 1080). This is a recommendation, not a publishing requirement.

Device frames and text: in its “Highly recommended” guidance, Google lists device imagery among the elements to avoid in screenshots, because it can become obsolete quickly, and recommends that taglines take up no more than 20% of the image. These are recommendations, not requirements; see Google’s preview asset guidelines for the full list.

iPhone screenshots can’t double as Play screenshots: every size in Apple’s iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display), iPhone with Face ID (large display), iPhone with Face ID (medium display) classes is taller than 2:1 (the required 1206 × 2622 is about 2.17:1). Google Play rejects screenshots whose long side is more than twice the short side, so those images can’t be reused as Play screenshots.

Rules that get screenshots rejected

No alpha channel or transparency
Apple: "Images can’t include alpha channels or transparencies." That includes a PNG saved with an alpha channel even if every pixel is opaque. Google Play asks for JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha.
Accepted file formats
Apple: .jpeg, .jpg, or .png. Google Play: JPEG or 24-bit PNG.
Exact pixel sizes (Apple)
Apple specifies exact pixel sizes for each display class rather than a range, so export at one of the listed sizes exactly.
How many screenshots
Apple: at least one and up to 10 per device size. Google Play: up to 8 per device type, and at least two in total to publish.
How scaling works
If your app’s user interface is consistent across multiple device sizes and localizations, you only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution. App Store Connect automatically scales them down for smaller device sizes.
Google Play's 2:1 limit
Each side must be 320–3,840 px, and the longer side can't be more than twice the shorter one.

Frequently asked questions

What size are App Store screenshots in 2026?

For iPhone, Apple requires at least one screenshot in the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) class: 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 pixels in portrait, or 2556 × 1179 or 2622 × 1206 in landscape. If your app runs on iPad, Apple also requires the 13" iPad size: 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 portrait, or 2752 × 2064 or 2732 × 2048 landscape.

Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size?

No. Apple's requirement is at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display). Apple's guidance: "If your app’s user interface is consistent across multiple device sizes and localizations, you only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution. App Store Connect automatically scales them down for smaller device sizes." If you skip an optional size, App Store Connect uses scaled screenshots from another class instead.

Can App Store screenshots have transparency?

No. Apple's specification says: "Images can’t include alpha channels or transparencies." That covers the alpha channel itself, so export without one even if every pixel is opaque. Google Play also asks for JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha.

How many screenshots can I upload?

Apple: at least one and up to 10 per device size. Google Play: up to 8 per device type, and at least two in total across your device types to publish.

What file formats are accepted?

Apple accepts .jpeg, .jpg, or .png. Google Play accepts JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel, for both screenshots and the feature graphic.

What size is the Play Store feature graphic?

Exactly 1024 × 500 pixels, as a JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha. Google requires a feature graphic to publish your store listing.

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

Google doesn't set fixed sizes. Each side must be between 320 and 3,840 pixels, and the longer side can't be more than twice the shorter side. To be eligible for Google's larger recommendation formats, Google recommends at least four 9:16 portrait screenshots of at least 1080 × 1920 (or 16:9 landscape, at least 1920 × 1080).

Can I use the same screenshots for the App Store and Google Play?

Not for iPhone. Apple's required iPhone sizes are about 2.17:1, taller than Google Play's 2:1 maximum, so they aren't valid Play screenshots. You need a separately sized set for each store.
